Many years ago during a bitter winter, I was sketching the birds at my feeder. What a shame I thought, these birds struggle to survive in harsh conditions. They deserve to be flamboyantly colorful like their tropical cousins. I wanted to honor them in a special way. I would use my fashion illustration skills and my collection of embroideries, textiles, and patterns as a palette. I combined my ink sketches and patterns to create these beloved birds.
